SFRATTO/EVICTION (2020)

Laura Partin, in collaboration with Linda Greta Zsiga

exhibited in 2020 at Accademia di Romania in Roma, with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute

This series of drawings explores the eviction of Roma people from social housing in Romania between 2010 and 2020. The works draw inspiration from photo and video journalism, as well as written reports documenting these events.

They reveal the realities faced by individuals forced to live on the streets or in extremely precarious conditions, highlighting the social exclusion and vulnerability that followed their eviction from homes they had occupied for over three decades.

One of the documented cases focuses on 76 families—around 300 people—who lived beside the Pata Rât landfill in Cluj-Napoca between 2010 and 2016, after being evicted from Coastei Street.

The Eviction exhibition, held in Rome in 2020, included a video featuring Linda Greta Zsiga, a Roma activist who belonged to the Coastei Street community prior to her family’s eviction in 2010.
